  1. So here’s a little knowledge bomb for anyone working towards health goals - Fitbits have been very popular over recent years for monitoring calories and activity expenditure. One important factor for monitoring progress is the accuracy of the tool being used. Of course doing more and eating less will cause some progress initially, but how much can you reduce food and increase activity before feeling discouraged when progress is no longer moving. Do you move onto the next popular gadget out there, or do you quit? A study conducted in 2015 by Sasaki et al., examined the accuracy of calories burned using 15 different daily activities to see how the Fitbit monitored the calories burned for each. The initial stages for the study used an oxycon gas analyzer and volume sensors to maintain integrity of accuracy with the Fitbit tracker. During the study, subjects were instructed to place the Fitbit on the hip. When doing the 15 different activities, 7 of those 15 activities shown to be very inaccurate, most in which are daily routines for most people using the Fitbit (Table 1). Out of those 7, carrying groceries seemed to be the only activity where it was over estimated. The orange highlights indicate the under estimations of calories burned. The take home message - find other ways to keep you accountable such as measuring yourself with a tape measure, body fat caliper, record the data each week, and use a food scale to keep track of food intake, along with a food tracking app. If you want to change your body, diet and exercise is key, and no special device will ever replace that. #nutrition #nutritioncoach #nutritionknowledge #knowledge #myth #wackwednesday #bodybuilding #figure #npc #bikini #onlinecoach #fittips #fitness #fitnessmotivation #fitnessinspiration #fitnessjourney #weightloss #fitbit #gainz #iifym #macros #flexibledieting #iifymgirls #iifymwomen #knowledgebomb #educate #coach #gtnutritionperformance
